Fractional Communications

Strategic narrative leadership without a full-time hire.

At a certain stage, narrative becomes strategic infrastructure.

It’s not just about “getting the word out.” It’s about controlling how your company is understood by investors, how your product is positioned against competition, how your team talks about what they’re building, and how external audiences decide whether you’re worth paying attention to.

Most companies hit this moment between seed and Series B. They’ve proven the product works. They’re scaling. And suddenly the narrative matters as much as the execution.

But hiring a full-time communications leader is either too early or too expensive. So narrative becomes something the founder handles between everything else. Or it gets delegated to whoever has time. Or it doesn’t happen at all.

That gap is expensive. Fundraising gets harder. Positioning drifts. The story your team tells isn’t the story prospects hear. Opportunities get lost because no one’s controlling the narrative.

Fractional communications solves that problem.

What This Actually Is

I act as your fractional Chief Communications Officer. Not full-time, but in the room when it matters.

This isn't a content production role. (Though content happens as part of the work.) It's strategic leadership over how your company is perceived, how your positioning evolves, and how narrative gets deployed across investor relations, external communications, internal alignment, and market-facing content.

You get a senior strategic voice with founder-level context and access. I can push back. I can challenge. I can tell you when the narrative isn't working and why.

Think of it as having a communications executive on retainer who knows your business deeply enough to make decisions without constant oversight — but isn't a full-time hire.

    What This Covers

Company positioning and messaging: How the market understands what you do, who you compete with, and why you matter.

Investor relations: Updates, fundraising narratives, board presentations, due diligence preparation.

Internal communications: All-hands messaging, re-org communications, culture articulation.

External communications: PR narrative, press releases, media training, spokesperson development.

Executive support: Coaching your leadership team on how to communicate about the company.

Content strategy oversight: Not producing everything, but ensuring what gets produced serves strategic goals.

The scope adapts to what your company needs. Some months it’s preparing for a fundraise. Other months it’s refining positioning ahead of a launch. The relationship is flexible because the demands are rarely static.

    How It Works

Weekly strategy sessions (90 min): Regular check-ins to discuss what’s happening, what’s coming, and how narrative should evolve.

Unlimited async access: For urgent decisions, quick reviews, or when something needs attention between sessions.

Attendance at key meetings: I join internal strategy sessions, board meetings, or investor conversations when narrative is on the table.

Direct collaboration with your team: I work alongside your marketing, product, and executive teams. Not as an outsider, but as part of the leadership.

This isn’t a vendor relationship. It’s an embedded partnership. You get someone with standing who understands the business and can move fast when needed.

    Who This Is For

Funded startups without senior communications leadership: You’re past the scrappy phase but not ready for a full-time CCO.

Founders preparing for major transitions: Fundraises, launches, pivots, or exits where narrative becomes critical.

Companies in narrative-critical phases: Crisis communications, competitive repositioning, or market moments where getting the story right determines outcomes.

CEOs who need thinking partnership at the company level: You need someone who can see the whole picture and help you control how the story evolves.

    What This Is Not

This is not a marketing execution role. I’m not running ads, building websites, or managing campaigns.

This is not a junior support role. You’re getting strategic leadership, not task completion.

This is not a vendor relationship where you hand off projects and wait for deliverables. This is a senior partnership where I’m in the room making decisions alongside you.

If you need execution-only support, look elsewhere. If you need strategic narrative leadership without hiring full-time, this is the right structure.
